Portsmouth Naval Memorial
The memorial was designed by Sir Robert Lorimer and is located on Southsea Common. There are 24,593 identified casualties listed of which 10,000 were sailors in World War One. The memorial was unveiled by the Duke of York (future King George VI) on 15th October 1924

My Great-Aunts remembered being taken into the family library by their nanny to be told of Alan's death by my Grandfather. Alan is second from left in the photo attached - I believe that on his right is the future George VI, father of our present Queen, and possibly on his left the future Edward VIII. The photo was taken when they were mid-shipmen prior to WW1.
