Joined as a Boy on 12 March 1892. Started his Continuous Service on 22 October 1894. Served aboard HMS Powerful from 8 June 1897 to 8 June 1900, and participated in the Boer War. Posted to HMS Boscawen, boys' training ship based at Portland, from 26 March 1901 to 1 January 1902. Commenced coastguard duties in Ireland from 30 November 1904 onwards. LSGC medal issued October 1909. Appears on 1911 census at Ballynacarrig coastguard station, was at Clifden coastguard station upon the outbreak of war. Served aboard HMS Caroline from 4 December 1914 to 26 June 1917. Posted to HMS Carlisle, a light cruiser under construction, from 20 November 1918 to 23 March 1919. Performed coastguard duties at Cleggan, Galway from 24 March 1919 onwards. Discharged on 30 April 1919, so as to join the Coastguard New Force service. Lived at 9 Coast Guard Cottages, Bournemouth as per the 1921 census. Died on 12 November 1940 in Christchurch.
