Decorations 1914-15 Star, Victory & British War Medals Next of kin address UK More info He rejoined in August 1914 as an Engineer Lieutenant (Emergency) and was posted to HMS Galatea where he was serving at Jutland, by which time he was ranked as Engineer Lieutenant Commander. He subsequently went to the Mediterranean station on HMS Egmont and at Malta Dockyard. He reverted to the Emergency List in October 1919 when he was an acting Engineer Commander. HMS Galatea was a light cruiser of the Arethusa Class and flagship of the 1st Light Cruiser Squadron. She was the first British ship to make contact with German forces at Jutland and engaged SMS Elbing. She received a hit from an enemy shell which fortunately failed to explode and she sustained no casualties or damage in the battle. Galatea was scrapped in October 1921
