He married Evelyn Frances Butler on 11 May 1910. On 9 October 1914 he was appointed to HMS Caroline, to be her First Officer (2-i-c) upon her commissioning. In December 1917 he moved to HMS Cardiff, in which he served until 1 March 1919, being promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June 1918. Promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1925. Rear-Admiral Commanding, New Zealand Station 9 Mar 1935 – Jun 1938. Promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 19 July, 1936. Placed on the Retired List on 25 October 1938. He served in World War II as Captain of the Dockyard at Portland from August 1939 and as Chief of Staff to the Commander-in-Chief, Rosyth from 1942 until September 1945 when he retired. Died on 9 September 1965 in Windsor.
