Understated his true age by a year. Started his 12 year Continuous Service on 3 April 1899. Appears on the 1901 census aboard HMS Mars, moored at Gibraltar. Discharged as Time Expired on 2 April 1911. Given permission to join the RFR, but did not take it up. Became a chauffeur, residing at 140 Stanley Road, Stamshaw, Portsmouth as per the 1911 Census. Reenlisted on 3 August 1914 for hostilities only. Served aboard HMS Caroline from 4 December 1914 to 31 December 1917. Married to Edith Bessie nee Carpenter in 1917. Served aboard the destroyer HMS Viscount from 4 March 1918 onwards. Discharged on 2 March 1919. Living at 115, Herne Hill Road, Herne Hill as per the 1921 census. Retired as a carpenter, living with wife and son at 39 Champion Hill, Camberwell as per the 29 September 1939 register. Died in Uckfield in Sussex on 12 August 1951.
