Started his Continuous Service on 12 July 1915. Served aboard HMS Caroline at Jutland. Drowned at sea on 12th January 1918 when HMS Narborough (his ship) and HMS Opal were wrecked on the cliffs at Hesta Rock, South Ronaldsay whilst returning to Scapa Flow in a blizzard. There was only one survivor from the two destroyers.
