Patrick joined the Royal Navy in 1904 enlisting at the Coastguard station in Tramore, County Waterford. He served on HMS Tiger at both Dogger Bank and Jutland and was present at Scapa Flow when the German Fleet was scuttled at the end of the war. In 1919 he was serving on the convoys to Russia. Patrick left the RN in 1926 and returned to Ireland, but when WWII broke out he tried to re-enlist, but was unable due to mobility issues that were the consequences of a broken ankle. Exact date of death unknown.
