He served the entire war on board HMS Vanguard and was one of 843 killed when the ship blew up and sank while at anchor in Scapa Flow on 9 July 1917. Reg is commemorated on panel 25 of the Chatham Navy Memorial and also on the memorial in Sturry church yard.
