'Nature of service prior to entering Reserve: Casually employed discharging cargoes [as a docker]' Embarked HMS Caroline on 4 December 1914. Deserted from HMS Caroline 28 August 1916, and apprehended a week later. Deserted from HMS Cardiff 27 May 1917. Deserted from Portsmouth RN barracks at Victory Main Gate on 26 March 1918. Deserted from HMS Minotaur on 3 April 1918 and not reapprehended. 'It is not desired to claim Boyle for further service in the R.N.' dated 30 June 1920. Applied for medals in 1925, but his entitlement was forfeited by desertion.
