The memorial was designed by Sir Robert Lorimer and is located on Southsea Common. There are 24,593 identified casualties listed of which 10,000 were sailors in World War One. The memorial was unveiled by the Duke of York (future King George VI) on 15th October 1924

Next of kin address Warwickshire England Fanny Tonks Birmingham Littlefield or 59 Bramford Road Oldbury England Mother Mary Ann (Polly) Tonks Father Joseph Tonks More info Joseph was my Grandmother's brother therefore my Great uncle I notice that you have his mother's name as Polly but on my Grandmother's birth certificate dated 1886 2yrs before Joseph was born mothers name is Mary Ann (Polly can be a nickname for Mary). Joseph snr is listed as a boatman working on local canals. I'm in the process of looking for a photo of Joseph and will post one if I find any. Joyce Walker
